Hi, it would be really great if achieved. But this requires a lot of political effort and also the types of renewables available depends on geographical and meteorological conditions. Countries around and below equator have abundant sunlight, solar power can be harvested very easily. Coastal regions can use wind energy or tidal energy. If there are any River’s flowing one can use hydroelectric power and at present this contributes to 70 percent of renewable energy and 17 percent of total world energy demand.
Yet the concept of harvesting power from renewable sources is debatable for the colder parts of the world.

Dont forget geothermal and nuclear energy! Geothermal is appliable everywhere, although it is limited to a certain amount per square kilometer (so for example, you cannot provide energy for a whole neighbourhood or industrial area from geothermal; it must be more spreaded). Nuclear is footlose except for the very important fact that it must be built in a safe place (no tectonic activity, potential natural hazards or unstable political climate).

EDIT: and of course renewable energy in progress, such as the very promising osmotic power and even energy of algae.

Yes, due to there limitations, I just ignored to mention them. Yes, renewable energy is what should be used in the coming years.
